A quiet week on the firmware front — and that itself is news worth reporting. Our research sweep of 12 → 13 October 2026 found no confirmed new receiver model launch, firmware release, or brand announcement with a source date inside the window. Rather than pad the day with re-labeled old items, today's dish receiver update does something more useful: the 2026 receiver compatibility guide — what DVB-S2X, 4K HEVC, multistream and T2-MI actually mean, how to match a receiver to your dish, and how to tell an Enigma2 image from a brand firmware before you flash.
Need the October release news instead? Yesterday's edition — Dish Receiver Updates October 12, 2026: OpenATV 8.0 Guide — covers the OpenATV 8.0 release week, and the October 2026 new-models edition covers the September brand-firmware wave (StarSat, Geant, MediaStar, Tiger). Nothing in those two posts is repeated here.
⚡ Quick Summary — Receiver Updates (Oct 13, 2026)

📡 Firmware Scene This Week — The Honest Picture
Here is exactly what the checks found — and did not find:
- swdw.net (StarSat firmware center): newest dated entries are still 5 September 2026 (SR_4000HD_CA and SR_3900HD_CA files, part of the already-covered September wave). No new files added since. Checked 2026-10-13 ~17:05 PKT.
- linuxsat-support.com — Enigma2 Firmware / Image Teams board (board index, checked Oct 13 ~17:10 PKT): the OpenATV board saw new posts on Oct 13 (staff member "Captain" at 7:32 AM, user "amrogbox" at 10:01 AM), and the "Other Image Teams & Unofficial Builds" board saw a post Oct 12 at 8:41 PM. The board index does not expose thread titles, so we cannot confirm these are release announcements rather than support chatter — they are reported as community activity only. The OpenATV 8.0 beta thread remains active today (posts 10:01–10:13 AM), consistent with ongoing 8.0 beta discussion; no new stable release was announced there. OpenViX, OpenPLi and Satlodge boards show no in-window posts.
- enigma2.net (checked Oct 13 ~17:05 PKT): the update archive lists OSCam 11968 for all images (DM900/DM920/DM520/DM525/DM820/DM7080) and the X-STREAMITY v5.59 plugin. Its OpenPLi GCC-16.3 for DM900 article is dated 3 October 2026 — outside this window and adjacent to the GCC-16.2-for-DM920 item already covered. The site's "OpenViX 6.9 for VU+ DUO 4K LITE" article is recycled 6.0-era template text with no visible date — unverified, and not presented as a release.
- Web + brand announcements (StarSat, Geant, Tiger, MediaStar, Octagon, Vu+, Dreambox): nothing new in the window. Newest dated items are September firmwares (e.g. SR-488HD ~26 Sep, SR-90000HD EXTREME V380 ~24 Sep 2026 — September wave, already covered).
Bottom line: zero genuinely new receiver firmware or hardware in this window. If you saw "new release" claims without a dated source, check them against the list above before flashing — especially the recycled "6.6/6.9" OpenViX items, which are years old.
🛰️ Receiver Compatibility Guide 2026 — Match the Box to Your Dish
Buying or upgrading a satellite receiver in 2026? The single most expensive mistake is buying a box that cannot physically decode the signals you want. Here is the compatibility map, plain-language:

DVB-S2 vs DVB-S2X — the demodulator matters most
DVB-S2 is the broadcast standard on most Ku-band transponders you watch today. DVB-S2X is its successor, used on newer high-efficiency transponders and some data/feed services. The catch: DVB-S2X is not software — it needs a demodulator chip that supports it. No firmware update can add S2X reception to a box whose tuner hardware only does DVB-S2. If your targets include newer transponders listed as S2X on KingOfSat/LyngSat, buy a box with an S2X-capable tuner from the start.
4K UHD & HEVC/H.265 decoding
4K broadcasts (e.g. on 19.2E, 13E, 26E, 7W in our region's footprints) use HEVC (H.265) compression. An "HD" receiver without HEVC hardware decoding shows a 4K channel as a black screen with audio — or nothing at all. Check the spec sheet for "H.265/HEVC hardware decode" and "2160p output" before paying a 4K premium.
Multistream & T2-MI — the feed-hunter features
Many of the sports and news feeds covered on 1BissKey travel as multistream or T2-MI encapsulated streams. Standard consumer receivers skip these entirely. If you chase feeds, you need a receiver (or PC tuner card) with explicit multistream + T2-MI support in the demodulator — this is the single feature most often missing from budget boxes. Our 4:2:2 feed guide pairs well with this section.
Tuners, DiSEqC and USALS — wiring compatibility
One tuner = one transponder at a time. Dual/twin tuners let you record one transponder while watching another (same polarity/band). For multi-satellite dishes, the receiver must speak your switch's language: DiSEqC 1.0/1.1 for fixed multi-LNB switches, DiSEqC 1.2/USALS for motorized dishes. Almost all modern receivers cover 1.0/1.1; motor users must verify 1.2/USALS explicitly. See yesterday's DiSEqC setup guide for the wiring side.
Enigma2 Linux boxes vs brand receivers
Two different worlds: Enigma2 Linux receivers (Vu+, Dreambox, Octagon, Gigablue, Zgemma, Formuler…) run open community images — OpenATV, OpenViX, OpenPLi, OpenBH — with plugins, network streaming and deep tuning control. Brand receivers (StarSat, Geant, Tiger, MediaStar…) ship closed factory firmware tuned for their market, with simpler menus and IPTV/app extras. Neither is "better" — Enigma2 wins on flexibility and feed-hunting tools; brand boxes win on price and simplicity. You cannot flash Enigma2 onto a brand box or brand firmware onto an Enigma2 box — images and firmware are hardware-specific.

✅ Compatibility Checklist — Before You Buy or Flash
| Check | What to verify | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Tuner standard | DVB-S2 (minimum) or DVB-S2X on the spec sheet | S2X transponders are invisible to S2-only hardware |
| 2. Codec support | HEVC/H.265 hardware decode for 4K; MPEG-4 for HD | A 4K HEVC channel shows black on non-HEVC boxes |
| 3. Feed features | Multistream + T2-MI support (feed hunters only) | Most budget boxes skip these streams entirely |
| 4. Switch/motor control | DiSEqC 1.0/1.1; 1.2/USALS if you have a motor | Wrong DiSEqC version = second dish position unreachable |
| 5. Image/firmware source | Enigma2 image must match your exact model; brand firmware from the official center (e.g. swdw.net) | Wrong-model files are the #1 cause of bricked boxes |
| 6. Build date honesty | Demand a source-stated date; reject "NEW 2026" files with no date | Recycled old images (like the 2024 OpenViX 6.6 builds) circulate as "new" |
| 7. Backup first | Full settings + channel backup before any flash | Restores you in minutes if a flash misbehaves |
🔧 Safe Flashing Habits
- Match the exact model: an SR-2000HD EXTREME file is not an SR-2000HD HYPER file. One wrong letter can brick the box.
- Read the thread, not just the file: community boards (linuxsat-support.com) usually carry install notes and known-issue reports next to the download — read the last page before flashing.
- Enigma2 users: you cannot online-update across major OE-Alliance core jumps (e.g. OpenATV 7.x → 8.0) — plan a fresh flash with a settings backup, and check the release-notes thread for your model's status first (the DM520 8.0-beta reboot loop from September is the textbook example).
- Keep the old firmware file: store the last working build on your PC before every update, so you can roll back.
❓ Frequently Asked Questions
Was there any new receiver firmware released on October 13, 2026?
No. Our checks of swdw.net, the linuxsat-support.com image-team boards, enigma2.net and brand announcement channels found no firmware release, model launch or brand announcement with a source date of 12–13 October 2026. There was community board activity (new OpenATV-board posts on Oct 13, an "Other Image Teams" post on Oct 12), but thread titles were not visible, so it cannot be confirmed as release news.
Can a firmware update add DVB-S2X support to my receiver?
No. DVB-S2X reception requires a demodulator chip that supports S2X — it is hardware, not software. No firmware can add it to an S2-only tuner. Buy an S2X-capable box if your target transponders are S2X.
Why is my 4K channel showing a black screen with sound?
Almost certainly a missing HEVC/H.265 hardware decoder. 4K satellite channels are HEVC-encoded; a box without HEVC decode plays the audio but cannot render the video. The fix is a HEVC-capable receiver, not a firmware update (decoders are hardware).
Why can't my receiver see multistream or T2-MI feeds?
Because multistream and T2-MI need explicit demodulator support, which most budget consumer boxes lack. Only receivers whose spec sheet lists multistream + T2-MI (or a PC tuner card with that support) will lock these feeds.
Is the "OpenViX 6.6" or "6.9" build I saw online new?
No. The 6.6 builds on some indexes are 2024-era releases, and the "6.9" article on enigma2.net is recycled template text with no date. Neither is a new release. The newest confirmed OpenViX release in our coverage is 6.4 (OE-Alliance-core 5.3), reported 12 October 2026.
Can I flash OpenATV onto my StarSat/Geant/Tiger box?
No. Enigma2 images only run on Enigma2-compatible hardware (Vu+, Dreambox, Octagon, Gigablue, Zgemma, Formuler, etc.). Brand receivers use closed factory firmware from their own centers (e.g. swdw.net for StarSat). The two ecosystems are not interchangeable — flashing the wrong type bricks the box.
What is the safest way to update receiver firmware?
Use the exact file for your exact model, back up settings and channels first, read the last page of the community thread for known issues, and keep the previous working build saved for rollback. For Enigma2 major upgrades (e.g. OpenATV 7.x → 8.0), plan a fresh flash — online update is not supported across core jumps.

⚖️ Disclaimer
1BissKey reports only publicly announced firmware, models and compatibility information. No decryption keys of any kind are published here — none were officially issued in this window. Always download firmware from the manufacturer's official center or the image team's official source, and flash at your own risk: wrong-model files can permanently damage a receiver. Specs change; confirm critical details on the manufacturer's spec sheet before buying.
🏁 Conclusion
October 13 brought no new receiver firmware or hardware — and the most useful thing a receiver owner can do on a quiet day is get the compatibility fundamentals right: S2 vs S2X tuner, HEVC for 4K, multistream/T2-MI for feeds, DiSEqC for the dish, and the right firmware family for the hardware. Flashing nothing is always safer than flashing the wrong thing. We will be back tomorrow with the next daily check — and the moment a genuine new release lands, you will read it here first.
